In Defense of Details
The world is infinitely large if we take the time to notice.
The hurry that the world has convinced us is normal and acceptable infiltrates all aspects of life. We view our days as a series of checklists, placing efficiency on a pedestal. The line between human and machine shrinks. In Defense of Details presents you with an opportunity to address this relentless cycle.
Slowing the fuck down isn't as easy as it sounds. We need something tangible to reassure us that being a rock against the current is okay. Practicing mindfulness through noticing can help us get there. Paying attention to the details of your activities or the people around you can deepen your appreciation, making the present moment more fruitful.
For this exhibition, we challenge you to absorb each piece for as long as you can bear. Consider who you are in relation to the art. Ask yourself whether you and the artists could be friends. Push yourself to fall in love with—or feel disdain for—any of the elements. This is not a task; it is permission.
In this exhibit, Jane Robinholt, Evan Rumble, and Brendan Donovan each offer you the gift of contemplation. It's not about where the art takes you, but where you allow that contemplation to lead—the real art lies in your acceptance.
