Existence in Contrast
Wick Monet is pleased to introduce Existence in Contrast, an exhibition curated by the Pittsburgh-based Cornelius Martin. This collection delves into the foundation of our being: contrasts. Contrasts drive our perceptions and define our needs, providing the context for understanding before and after. Without our ability to perceive contrasts, existence itself would be a single mass. Instead, what we have allows for choice and nuisance which is worth exploration.
Existence in Contrast features four exceptionally talented artists, each representing a specific medium:
James Grossman of London, United Kingdom – Creates sculptures that undercut and challenge what we consider to be inorganic.
Heather Heitzenrater of Pittsburgh, USA – An oil painter whose subject matter reflects the relationship between the softness and resilience of human touch and the cold yet malleable nature of human creations.
Maximilian Le Cain of Cork, Ireland – An experimental moving image artist whose work decisively utilizes every element of filmmaking, human senses, instinct, and negative space as storytelling tools.
cameran.click of Pittsburgh, USA – A photographer whose respect for details enables freer movement in expression. Unapologetically, subjects are the focal point, taking up the majority of a frame, while the backgrounds know their place and play the role without complaint.
Existence in Contrast will present contrasts in the following four forms: dreams as destroyers of constructs and sources of inspiration; organic-synth structures as active participants in creating our experience; reflections of our interactions with our creations; and the industrial hardness that paves way to human comfort.
It is our hope that those viewing this exhibition will recognize the power and significance that is derived from their ability to appreciate what is and what is not. Assess various aspects of their lives and take more control of their own place in this universe.
