ABOUT BODIES

In “BODIES," artists were encouraged to share their most genuine, unfiltered works dealing with their relationship to their own body. Curator Claire Lindsey hopes that both viewers and artists will use this exhibition as an opportunity to explore the more unsavory parts of the human experience. Lindsey believes that if we speak freely about our hardships, celebrations, and all feelings toward our bodies, we can begin to heal. The exhibition includes works of euphoria, gore, growth, and acceptance, offering something for everyone.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

Claire Lindsey is a visual artist and a South Side resident.

Much of Lindsey’s artwork has to do with her relationship with her body. Using her favorite mediums, acrylic paint and charcoal, Lindsey has illustrated her own complicated feelings about her physical existence. Lindsey’s artwork deals with subject matter like body image, sexuality, romance, abuse, and womanhood. She believes that art is a crucial step in processing the circumstances of one’s life and ascending to a better version of oneself. Lindsey’s artistic inspirations include Francisco Goya, Zdzislaw Beksinski, and Stefan Burnett of Death Grips.

Lindsey has worked at Wick Monet since the Spring of 2023. During this time, she has thoroughly enjoyed connecting with and working to strengthen Pittsburgh’s artistic community. Lindsey has helped present several exhibitions at Wick Monet, including ‘Moments’ by Neeta Khanuja, and the 2023 Pride Exhibition. She also enjoys attending events at Wick Monet and hosts a recurring event called Shitty Art Night where artists are encouraged to exchange their own least favorite pieces.

Outside of the gallery, Lindsey travels and attends concerts in her free time. She draws much inspiration from many music genres, including metal, alternative rock, and post-punk. Lindsey also enjoys relaxing with her boyfriend, John, and her cat, Licorice. She would like to thank everyone in her life who has supported her artistic endeavors and made this exhibition a reality
